Committee Insurance

Voluntary organisations like yours can become engaged in a range of activities, such as fundraising and community projects, that extend beyond the normal remit of an amateur dramatic committee. This approach can increase the threat of individual liability.

Committee insurance is designed to protect members of your society’s committee from liability when they are acting in an official capacity. From libel and slander to breach of copyright and volunteer disputes, if an incident were to arise where a member is proven to have innocently acted improperly, they would be defended.

How does this impact your society

As the responsibilities of individual committee members change or increase, societies may find it increasingly difficult to recruit. This is because most people aren’t prepared to expose themselves to liability. No committee members, no society – it’s that simple.

As an official committee member, you have considerable input in the administration and management of your society. If an incident arises through the course of your duties, even if it is as a result of an honest mistake, and the error is traced back to you, then you could be held personally liable for some or the entire ramification attributed to that error.

Committee insurance covers disputes such as discrimination or harassment, as well as financial loss of a third party following decisions by committee members.
